paper city is the story of a city slowly succumbing to a corruption that you simply cannot stop. It's created in the fine traditions of choose your own adventure and solo journaling games.
To play you need:
- The game book
- A place and method to record your entries
This game was created for the Scissors and Glue Jam 2.
Two versions of the PDF are available - a color one (in an attempt to capture the book as it appears) and a black and white one (in an attempt to keep it visually clean/legible). There is also a markdown/text file version, for accessibility purposes.

This is a game where both the textual content and the design work really well together to create the bleak atmosphere that permeates the story. There is a wonderful sense of despair even as the game asks if your character opts to save themself or others. It also does not reward or punish the player for acting either altruistically or selfishly. Events will happen as they happen and your choices are your own. I loved the blend of journaling and choose-your-own-adventure mechanics and highly recommend.
this served as my first solo RPG ever and i totally loved it!! the formatting with the corruption creeping from one page onto the next was absolutely lovely, once i realized what was happening i was amazed. the simplicity made it easy to pick up, but every line hit perfectly, and sparked writing about the journey flawlessly. i've only done one path so far, but definitely want to revisit. the tone of this was just amazing. loved!!!
