HOST is a solo journaling game about experiencing apocalyptic events as the world transforms in bizarre ways. The game takes place across three randomized Events, allowing for a large combination of potential stories and experiences. In addition to the standard Events, certain special ones give glimpses into the greater nature of the setting of Host, and allow the player's character to interact meaningfully with the world that is coming apart around them.

This was originally intended to be a setting for a tabletop arc, but seemed to fit better as a solo game, so it's been transformed into a format that will hopefully allow more people to enjoy it.

To play, all you need is:

  • A deck of cards (or other way to randomize a number from 1-13)
  • A way to record your journal entries

I've only done one playthrough of this game, but I enjoyed it so much! I really like the separate Event lists, and journaling the time between them created a really evocative story of a farmer trying to figure out what the Host wanted them to do about the hole in the sky. It felt very dramatic and the ending inevitable, and I look forward to playing it again!

That's really excellent to hear! I'm glad you had a good time with it.

I really like that you got the hole in the sky on your first go - that was one of the first ideas I really had for this setting, so it's exciting that you ran into it straight away. Thank you so much for sharing your experience - please keep us posted of any of your other playthroughs, we'd love to hear about it!

Hello! I'd really like to try this game. Unfortunately, I lack the means to pay for it. Would it be ok to ask for a community copy? If not, I totally understand! Thank you!

Hi! I've added a couple more. Let me know if you have issues grabbing one before they disappear.

Thank you so much!
